The Fort Bend Independent School District was formed in 1959 by the consolidation of the Sugar Land ISD and Missouri City ISD. John Foster Dulles High School was the district’s first and only High School until the opening of Willowridge High School in 1979. From these humble beginnings the district became the fastest growing school district in the State of Texas and now has a Family of 11 High Schools, 14 Middle Schools, and 45 Elementary Schools.
Earlier this year nearly 50 Fort Bend ISD football players from 8 of these 11 high schools were honored at a National Signing Day Ceremony to celebrate scholarships to continue their academic and athletic careers at colleges and universities across the country.
A number of players from previous years in Fort Bend High Schools went on to play in the NFL. Some are still active in the League. Among those active is Derek Carr from Clements High School who was recently announced as the starting Quarterback for the NFL’s Oakland Raiders.
Some have retired from the NFL and returned to Fort Bend to honor coaches or become coaches in the district.
Perhaps the most notable contribution from Fort Bend Willowridge was Thurman Thomas, who played for the Buffalo Bills, was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2007 and into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2008.
We look forward to more exciting football from our Fort Bend ISD High School teams under the Friday Night Lights in this current season.
